Will believe their logic is correct. - Dukkha-Guilt - Remedied by duty + wealth + pleasure + liberation. OR liberation. - Dharma: duty (support/constant) - Learning to choose duty over pleasure. Innately hard. - To become sober/overcome addiction, need competing reason. - Doesn't need to be a "grand" purpose. - Looking for a "grand" dharma very ego-gratifying. Big dreams can sabotage the capacity to work. - Need to complete fundamental/base duties before accessing "grand" duties. - PFC-NAcc (Pre-Frontal-Cortex; Nucleus Accumbens) - PFC: Source of value assessment. If high activated NAcc - NAcc: Source of motivation. - If dream too big, any 1 action so INSIGNIFICANT for fulfilling goal = not worth it. = Reduced motivation. - Be careful when your mind (NAcc) de-values something. PFC will rationalise the devaluation of it. - "Mind" justifies ST behaviour unless trained to be LT. - World conditions the mind to pursue pleasure. If the world can control your mind it can control your actions. Reason advertising behavioural neuroscience so effective. - If expected gain + don’t get it = destroyed motivation. - More externalised attention (sometimes in guise of productivity)= lost connection with self - What should I do? Should answer from inside, NOT outside. - Externalising attention = more crap on inside. Feeling worse = harder to internalise attention. - Boredom: Is just existing with oneself. Becomes introspection. - Can become vicious cycle: Technology suppresses amygdala/limbic system. Suppressing internal negative sensation.  When stop = increased negative feeling. -> Behaviour of engaging with technology more. - The more insecure you are = the harder boredom is. - Tolerance of boredom gives control to self over “mind”, and the capacity to do things. - Finding requires introspection. - Moksha: liberation - Existing beyond physical/mental sensations. Stimulating TPJ= out of body xp. - Meditation: - Becoming attention/awareness without an object.  (Dyann) - Enough time in this state makes suffering disappear. - Gaining takes a very long time of slow progress. - Arkva: Wealth - Way of supporting our wants/needs through security. - Protects from negative, enables positive. - Kamma: pleasure - Many of us conditioned to be controlled by pleasure. - World today has so much pleasure that we can develop tolerance/numbness to pleasure. = addiction + no longer giving pleasure. - Reliance on pleasure = emptiness. - Information alone insufficient to overcome addiction. - Stopping addiction incredibly painful. - Duty can be used to counter addition, - People look for motivation because they are lazy. When motivated = don't need to control self (actually lazy), don't require self-control. Screwed if we don't want something. - We don't get to control our wants. - Nature of wants to provide temporary fulfilment (hedonic treadmill) - Transcendental meditation on chanting decade
